The first statistical Datathon for students in Bulgaria was completed
Team ‘Мататон’ from PPMG ‘Acad. Nikola Obreshkov‘ - Burgas, is the winner of the first Daytathon, organized by the National Statistical Institute, in which 27 student teams from secondary schools in the country participated. The second place was taken by ‘Тийм 51’ from the 51st Secondary School ‘Elisaveta Bagriana’ in Sofia, and the third place was taken by the team ‘Пуканка’ from the Secondary School ‘Vasil Levski’ - Troyan.
Meeting of the National Statistical Council
On June 8, 2023, the National Statistical Council, the highest advisory body in the field of statistics at the national level, met.
The meeting discussed the progress on the actions taken by the statistical authorities on the recommendations of the last Peer Review, which took place in Bulgaria between March 28 and April 1, 2022.
18 teams qualified for the final stage of the NSI Datathon 2023
Eighteen teams from Burgas, Varna, Gotse Delchev, Dobrich, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Pernik, Troyan, Sofia, Silistra and Shumen reached the final stage of the first statistical Datathon for students, organized by the National Statistical Institute.
Students from classes X to XII from secondary schools across the country were eligible to participate, and the aim of the new NSI initiative is to increase the statistical literacy of high school students by giving them the opportunity to work out solutions on a certain database.
European Statistics Competition video winners
We are excited to announce the results of the European Statistics Competition 2023, held in the 2022-2023 school year.
Over 19 000 students from 19 countries signed up for the sixth edition of this statistical literacy contest, the highest number since the start of the competition.
NSI and UNICEF presented new data on the situation of children in Bulgaria and worldwide
Within the celebration of Children's Day, June 1, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) and UNICEF Bulgaria marked the occasion with a joint press conference.
The event was attended by the President of the NSI, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD, and Christina De Bruin, UNICEF representative for Bulgaria, while Magdalena Kostova, Director of the Demographic and Social Statistics Directorate, presented the new publication of the NSI, ‘The Children of Bulgariа’ 2022.
Happy 1st of June!
There are 1 099 696 children aged 0 - 17 in Bulgaria, or 17.1% of the population.
A total of 56 596 babies will be born in 2022: 28 923 boys and 27 673 girls.
Households with children under 16 number 630 386, according to the 2021 Census. In 62.3% of these households, there is only one child under 16.
Joint Press Conference of the NSI and UNICEF
On June 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., a Joint Press Conference of the National Statistical Institute and UNICEF - Bulgaria will be held in the NSI building at 2 Panayot Volov Str. in Sofia.
At the Press Conference, the new publication of NSI "Children of Bulgaria", 2022 and the Regional Report of UNICEF "The Situation of Children in Europe and Central Asia" will be presented.
The event will be attended by Mrs Christina de Bruin - UNICEF Representative for Bulgaria, and Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD - President of the NSI.
