            Eurostat expert team was on a two-day mission in the National Statistical Institute, to assess the reliability of the data on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP). Among the main topics of discussion were specific issues related to HICP data; the methodology for energy products in Bulgaria; the methodology for telecommunications services; specifics issues related to the house price indices, and others. Representatives of the Bulgarian National Bank and the Ministry of Finance also participated in the meeting as observers.

Deputy President of the National Statistical Institute, Svilen Kolev, PhD met in Beijing with the Deputy Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics of China Mrs. Ruan Jianhong. Mr.

The President of NSI Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov took part in a high level meeting of the heads of the European national statistical institutes on theme “Towards an ESS Vision 2030”. The event which took place in Balatonfüred was organized jointly by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office and Eurostat as part of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The President of the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria (NSI) Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov and the Presdient of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) - Athanasios Thanopoulos, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of official statistics, which marked the beginning of a new stage in the collaboration between the two countries in statistical studies of foreign trade in goods, tourism statistics, population and housing census, etc.

With an official letter from the Chair of the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Mr. Geir Axelsen, the President of NSI Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD, was informed of the successful conclusion of Bulgaria’s accession review to the Committee.

At an invitation of the Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), Mr. Gogita Todradze, the President of the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD, and Deputy President Svilen Kolev, PhD, took part in the second edition of Regional Conference on Gender Statistics, which was held on 25-26 July 2024 in Tbilisi.  

On 4-5 July 2024, the Global Conference on Measuring New Forms of Employment, jointly organized by Eurostat and the International Labour Organization (ILO), was held in Brussels. The Deputy President of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), Diana Yancheva, took part in the event on behalf of Bulgaria.

The President of the NSI, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD participated in the 72nd plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES), which was held in the period of June 20 – 21, 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland. The event is organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

The President of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD and Deputy President Svilen Kolev, PhD, accompanied by experts from the International Relations and Projects Department, took part in the 21st meeting of the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The meeting was held on 17-18 June 2024 at the OECD headquarters in Paris.

The President of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD and the Director of Multi-Domain Statistics, Methodology and Registers Directorate, Antoaneta Ilkova, took part in the 11th European Conference on Quality in Official Statistics (Q2024) in Estoril, Portugal. The event was hosted by Statistics Portugal in close collaboration with Eurostat under the theme “Official Statistics as a Pillar of Democracy”.
