Gross Domestic Product for the First Quarter of 2022 (preliminary data)
According to the seasonally adjusted data, GDP increased by 4.0% in the first quarter of 2022 compared with the same quarter of 2021.

In March 2022, compared to February 2022, an increase is reported for the production of solid fuels - by 8.7%, liquefied petroleum gases - by 133.3%, unleaded motor gasoline - by 31.7%, transport diesel - by 29.1% and electricity - by 14.7%. No change in the production of natural gas.
In March 2022, compared to February 2022, an increase is reported for the deliveries of solid fuels - by 8.5%, liquefied petroleum gases - by 10.3%, unleaded motor gasoline - by 55.9%, transport diesel - by 47.5%, natural gas - by 10.1% and electricity - by 12.2%.
The Total Producer Price Index in April 2022 increased by 3.3% compared to the previous month and by 40.2% compared to the same month of 2021. The Producer Price Index on the Domestic Market in April 2022 rose by 4.1% compared to the previous month; compared to the same month of 2021, the domestic prices increased by 49.8%.
In May 2022, the total business climate indicator decreases by 0.7 percentage points in comparison with April as a result of the more unfavourable business climate in industry, construction and retail trade.
According to preliminary data during the first quarter of 2022 in comparison with the same quarter of 2021, the goods carried increased (by 2.2%), while the transport performance from the freight land and water transport decreased by 7.9%.
Compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year the number of transported passengers by passenger transport (land, water and urban electrical transport) rose by 15.6%. The transport performance also increased by 19.9% compared to first quarter of 2021.
In the first quarter of 2022, during the continuing epidemic situation in the country, 703.4 thousand Bulgarian residents made tourist trips. The majority - 87.9% of them travelled only within the country, 10.8% - only abroad and 1.3% - both within the country and abroad. Compared to the same quarter of 2021, the total number of the travelled persons aged 15 and over increased by 53.9%.
In April 2022, the number of the trips of Bulgarian residents abroad was 590.5 thousand or by 117.7% above the registered in April 2021.
In April 2022, the number of arrivals of visitors from abroad to Bulgaria was 646.3 thousand or by 128.8% more in comparison with April 2021. An increase in the trips with all observed purposes was registered. Transit passes through the country were 42.9% (277.5 thousand) of all visits of foreigners to Bulgaria.
According to the preliminary data for the first quarter of 2022, the total turnover index in the section ‘Transportation, storage and post’, calculated on the basis of seasonally adjusted data, rose by 9.6% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. In the section ‘Information and communication’ the turnover index increased by 6.1%.
